This will be my only political posting. I hold my political beliefs close but in a few areas I feel the need to make comment. I am a conservative independent. I do not vote along party lines. I have voted for Reagan, Clinton, Bush… I’m from a southern democrat family.
I know that the opinions expressed are mine and mine alone. I know the facts behind most of the issues(1) I have. And, if you look, those facts are listed in the footnotes section. This not a moving piece or even one filled with midl rage or any venom. Its just my thoughts on the prospects for President.
Senator H. Clinton -
Dear Lord, anyone but her. There is simply to much for me to put here. I do not, on a deep and personal level, like the good Senator from New York. As was posted here yesterday, please Clinton, drop out.
Her ideas on Universal Healthcare(2) worry me. Forcing everyone to have health insurance is one thing. Being the national parent and providing it to children is another. I agree that kids need the coverage. Forcing me to have it is another. You do understand that there is a distinct difference between health care and health insurance, right Mrs. Clinton? I always favored the adage, “That government is best which governs least(3)“.
Her ideas on Iraq/Afghanistan troop withdraws(4) also scare me.
Hillary Clinton has said that as president she would not listen to generals in Iraq and would withdraw troops no matter what(5) .
Holding scripted press conference(6) and refusing to answer genuine questions from union members(7)? Aren’t they a Democratic base?? Please.
Senator B. Obama -
The good Senator Obama refuses to wear an American Flag lapel pin(8) or or place his hand over his heart during the National Anthem(9), while hanging on the wall of his Houston, TX campaign office is the image of a mass murdering communist, Che Guevara.
Obama has the same ideas as to troop withdraw from Iraq/Afghanistan as Clinton. But Obama has made no mention of disregarding his generals. Obama also falls into the Universal Health field. Its the Democratic standard now, right?
My thoughts are, as stated above, that yes the kids need it. The poor still use it even when they cant pay. Emergency Rooms are crowded even when you can pay. How will Universal Health help? Should I look to the great example of Canadian Health Care where you wait and wait to be seen?
I’m not even going to go into radicals supporting a presidential candidate. Obama has his(10) and I’m sure the others have theirs.
Senator J. McCain -
To me McCain is a R(h)ino(11) . He offers nothing that is awe inspiring or makes me want to move in his direction(12) . McCain and Senator Kennedy cosponsoring a bill that waters down immigration control is a sham(13) and shows he is not a conservative wanting to curb illegal immigration(14).
Ron Paul -
Not sure. Need to read more on him.
Mitt Romney -
After he withdrew Romney gave a great speech that outlined his values and ideas. To bad it was given to late to help. I really wish he was still running.
We have a historic time at hand. We are a nation at war with an enemy who is bent on the destruction of the United States(15) and wanting to install a religious government. We have rising unemployment. Add to that the illegal immigrants and poor/lax border security and we are headed to disaster. None of the Democratic candidates seem to want to talk about these issues and Senator McCain is doing lip service only.
Here are the questions that I want answered -
- Are you going to STOP illegal immigration?
- Are you going to DEPORT illegal immigrants?
- Are you going to STRENGTHEN border security?
- Are you going to PENALIZE me for Universal Health(16) ?
- What are your TROOP REDUCTION plans for Iraq/Afghanistan?
- What are your PLANS for domestic and international terrorism?
- How will you SPUR the economy?
- How will you ENGAGE me to vote for you?
So what do I do? I look at the candidates actions(17) not words. Lip service(18) and grandiose plans turn me off. Either you hold true to who you are(19) or you loose credibility.
As it stands now, I’m undecided. Will I vote for Clinton? Are you on crack? What about McCain? Give me a break. Obama? Don’t know.

To me McCain is a R(h)ino(
California had its primary on Super Tuesday, and since I am a registered Republican, I looked at one point at all 11 Republicans on the ballot. Eventually I narrowed my choice down to the six who had not withdrawn from the race, and ended up voting (with no great fervor) for Mike Huckabee. Come election time, I will look at all of the candidates, not just the major two (although I’d be very surprised if Peace & Freedom got my vote).
If you truly believe in the adage that a government governs best that governs least, then you should look at Ron Paul. However, bear in mind that the libertarian solution is, in this post-FDR day and age, revolutionary instead of evolutionary. The libertarian philosophy generally doesn’t include a government providing health care to children, or to anyone. Or, for that matter, freeways or other “internal improvements.”

Shoot, not Peace and Freedom?
I’ll look at all the candidates as well come election day. Right now I’m just fed-up with the two major parties. Even the lesser parties don’t excite me.
I’m all for kids health care, however; I’m against forcing adults to have it.
And the libs are a tad to much on the little government. I know… I’m just not happy…
